At Distinctive Love Ministries we believe in creating relationships with our families and our couples by serving them at some of the most stressful, upsetting, amazing, and sometimes emotional days of their lives. Our couples and families find us and come to us through many different ways including the internet, word of mouth in the wedding and funeral industries, social media and from family and friends of those we’ve served.
By acting with kindness, thoughtfulness, respect and creativity when meeting with couples and families, we strive to be professional in all the ceremonies that we do. New Life celebration, funeral celebrant work and solemnization of marriages are how our congregation grows by further reaching new people at every event we are involved in. We strive to inspire and uplift others at all times in every service that we do!
How it all Began
I grew up going to church every Sunday at the United Church in my neighbourhood and my family was quite involved in activities at my church throughout my childhood, my Dad was an Elder in the Church. My faith wavered and strengthened in ebs and flows especially after the loss of my father in 1995 from Lou Gehrig's Disease.
After having my first son I returned to Church and began my journey Ministering to others. I was able to mentor young women in the Church through their Confirmation journey. I was eventually hired to run the Children's Ministry department of First Grantham United Church. I ran a very successful program there.
I later took funeral celebrant training and began work as a funeral celebrant. I went from doing 10 funerals a year to sometimes as high as 50 per year until the present time serving well over 850 families in the Niagara Region.
I loved being able to become the go to person for many families as their Spiritual Leader when it came to performing many funerals in their families. I was then able to extend that to doing weddings. Once I was able to receive my licence from the Province I was able to share messages of hope, love and joy with thousands of people a year. People started gravitating to me to also be able to work in Ministry alongside me. Our leadership team grew under the umbrella of Cathy Davis and Company adding 28 leaders to the team over a 12 year period. We serve our community together on a daily business meeting in small groups, with couples and families and online in worship together. As a team we speak in front of thousands of people throughout the year and have many join us along the way.
We believe that we do not need to meet in a typical church building to worship but meet in spaces donated to us such as the beautiful Community building at Hernder Winery and the Retreat building at Cave Springs. We also meet online.
As with many Churches during Covid we saw a huge decline in attendance however following that our Membership rose in the years since.
We take pride in the amount of couples and families we serve that continually tell their friends and families and see our couples and families as our congregation.
